It is impossible to describe the landscape of Los Vélez in one single catch phrase.
Around every corner or behind each mountain you’ll find a completely different landscape.
From the pine forests near María to the dry desert-like mountains around Vélez Blanco.
The plains, the mountains and the valleys - sometimes lovely, sometimes rugged -will
appeal and inspire to all likings
The major part of this area is declared a Natural Park;
el parque Natural de Sierra María-Los Vélez. Some areas may only be visited with
an expert and qualified guide so as to protect and conserve these areas further and
to minimize the disturbance of the animals living and breeding in these areas.
The local countryside has a wide variety of wildlife including wild boar, foxes,
badgers, wild cat, but also many species of birds of prey such as eagles and vultures
that live and breed here. All this makes for beautiful and exciting walks in the
ever changing and sometimes challenging scenery.
